Cyclone Biporjoy, likely to intensify in next 6 hours

Cyclone Biparjoy: Cyclone Biparjoy is set to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm in the next six hours. A very intense cyclonic storm will move northwestward, and then reach Pakistan and adjoining areas of Saurashtra and Kutch by Thursday, the Met department said in an update on Sunday. Due to this, alert has been declared in many states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa.

The Meteorological Department said in a tweet that very intense cyclonic storm Biporjoy is currently centered 600 km from Mumbai, 530 km from Porbandar, 830 km from Karachi. The cyclone will take a severe form from here and then reach surrounding areas including Pakistan, Saurashtra and Kutch by June 15. Rain is likely in many parts of Rajasthan in the coming days.

Cyclone Biporjoy, with a speed of 5 km per hour over the Arabian Sea in the last six hours, is currently south-south-west of Mumbai, Porbandar, 580 km south-south-west of Dwarka, 670 km south-southwest of Naliya and 830 km from Karachi, the IMD said. Centered in the south since June 10.

Rainfall is likely in some parts due to Cyclone Biporjoy. South and west of the state are likely to receive rain on June 14-15. Jodhpur and Udaipur are likely to receive rain with thundershowers. Apart from this, there was a rain alert in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and other coastal areas till Saturday. Meanwhile, the Valsad beach on the Arabian Sea coast has been closed for tourists till June 14 due to high waves.
